Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding Compound

What is Compound?

Compound is a membership-based longevity intelligence platform. We provide comprehensive biomarker profiling — testing 100+ clinical-grade markers across eight physiological systems — combined with clinician-aligned AI analysis that translates complex data into precise, personalised health protocols.

Our purpose is to give you a continuous, quantified understanding of your biological health: how your body is functioning at a systems level, where early signals of dysfunction may be emerging, and what evidence-based actions can optimise your trajectory. This is not reactive medicine. It is proactive, longitudinal health management — informed by the latest science in longevity, precision medicine, and multi-omics research.

How is Compound different from existing health screenings in Asia?

Asia has a strong culture of preventive health checks and the comprehensive panels offered by major hospital groups. These systems are valuable, but they share some limitations.

  • Japan's Ningen Dock: is the gold standard for structural detection: imaging, endoscopy, cancer screening. Excellent at finding things that already exist. But its blood panel is narrow, uses population-average reference ranges, and isn't designed to catch the slow molecular shifts that precede disease by 5–10 years.
  • Singapore's executive screenings: typically cover 15–30 blood markers. Efficient, convenient — but missing the markers that matter most for early risk detection: ApoB, Lp(a), fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, advanced inflammatory and hormonal panels.
  • Hong Kong and Southeast Asia: follow a similar model: annual checkup, basic metabolic panel, tumour markers, static PDF report. No longitudinal tracking. No trend analysis. No actionable protocols.

Compound is different in 4 ways:

  • Depth: 100+ biomarkers across cardiovascular, metabolic, hormonal, nutritional, inflammatory, organ function, aging, and environmental dimensions — far beyond what any standard package covers.
  • Precision: We apply optimal ranges derived from longevity research rather than population-average “normal” ranges.
  • Continuity: Biannual testing with longitudinal trend analysis. A single test is a snapshot; repeated measurement reveals trajectory — which is what actually predicts outcomes.
  • Actionability with clinician review: AI-driven analysis, calibrated with clinical expertise, that translates results into structured, personalised protocols — not a generic PDF.
Who is Compound designed for?

Compound is built for individuals who approach their health with the same rigour they apply to other consequential decisions in their lives. Our members tend to share several characteristics:

  • A desire for comprehensive understanding: They are unsatisfied with fragmented, shallow health checks and want a holistic, systems-level view of how their body is functioning — not just isolated data points, but interconnected patterns across metabolic, cardiovascular, hormonal, and inflammatory dimensions.
  • A long-term perspective: They think in terms of trajectory, not snapshots. They want to understand not just where they are today, but the direction their health is moving — and they want the tools to course-correct early.
  • Intellectual engagement with science: They value evidence-based reasoning and are drawn to the frontier of longevity research. They want to understand why a biomarker matters, not just whether it’s flagged.
  • A proactive, self-directed approach: They invest deliberately in nutrition, sleep, exercise, and supplementation — and want objective data to validate what’s working, identify what isn’t, and refine their approach with precision.
  • High standards for their time: They expect a premium, well-designed experience that delivers substantive insight without unnecessary complexity or wasted effort.

Compound is not designed for those seeking a quick, passive health check. It is for individuals who are willing to engage deeply with their own biology.

What We Test

Why do biomarkers matter?

Blood biomarkers are the most direct, measurable signals of what is happening inside your body at a molecular level. Unlike symptoms — which are lagging indicators that often appear only after years of silent progression — biomarkers can reveal metabolic dysfunction, chronic inflammation, hormonal imbalance, and organ stress long before they manifest clinically.

This is not a theoretical claim. Research from Stanford Medicine has demonstrated that longitudinal biomarker monitoring can identify metabolic dysfunction 5–7 years before clinical diagnosis. Conditions like insulin resistance, atherosclerosis, and many cancers develop silently over years or decades. By the time symptoms appear, the window for early, low-cost intervention has often narrowed significantly.

Compound uses biomarkers not merely as a diagnostic tool, but as a continuous feedback system — allowing you to understand your body’s current state, detect emerging risks, and measure the impact of your interventions over time.

What do you test?

We profile 100+ biomarkers across eight core physiological systems. Each system reveals a distinct dimension of your health:

  • Cardiovascular: Assesses arterial health, lipid metabolism, and long-term heart disease risk. Includes advanced markers often absent from standard panels, such as ApoB and Lp(a), which are among the strongest independent predictors of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
  • Metabolic: Evaluates blood sugar regulation, insulin sensitivity, and metabolic resilience. Critical for detecting pre-diabetic states and metabolic syndrome years before conventional thresholds are breached.
  • Hormonal: Maps the endocrine landscape: thyroid function, stress hormones, sex hormones, and adrenal output. Hormonal imbalances drive fatigue, mood disruption, body composition changes, and accelerated aging — often while standard panels show “normal” results.
  • Nutritional: Quantifies key micronutrients including vitamin D, B12, folate, ferritin, zinc, magnesium, and omega-3 status. Deficiencies and suboptimal levels are widespread in Asian populations and directly affect energy, immunity, and cellular repair.
  • Inflammation: Detects chronic, low-grade systemic inflammation — a root driver of cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, and accelerated biological aging. This is distinct from acute inflammation and often invisible without targeted testing.
  • Organ Function: Monitors liver, kidney, and broader organ health through sensitive markers like cystatin C and GGT that can detect early functional decline before standard markers move.
  • Aging: Estimates biological age and rate of aging using validated algorithms. Your chronological age is fixed; your biological age is modifiable — and tracking it over time is one of the most powerful tools in longevity science.
  • Environmental Exposure: Screens for accumulated heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium) that are increasingly relevant in urban Asian environments and can disrupt hormonal, neurological, and immune function.

For the full biomarker catalogue, see the Biomarkers library.

Your core membership covers these eight systems. For members seeking even deeper insight, we offer add-on modules including epigenetic age testing, gut microbiome profiling, advanced hormone, genomic risk analysis, and proteomic panels.

The Science

What is the scientific foundation behind Compound?

Our methodology rests on three principles:

  • Longitudinal tracking over point-in-time testing: A single blood test is a snapshot — it tells you where you are, not where you’re heading. Testing the same comprehensive panel at regular intervals reveals trends and rates of change. This is the foundation of precision health: your trajectory is a more powerful predictor of outcomes than any single measurement.
  • Optimal ranges over population “normal” ranges: Standard reference ranges are derived from the general population — which includes a significant proportion of metabolically unhealthy individuals. We apply evidence-based optimal ranges from longevity research, targeting the biomarker values associated with the lowest all-cause mortality and longest healthspan.
  • Clinician-aligned AI analysis: Our AI engine is a multi-agent system built and continuously calibrated in collaboration with longevity scientists and clinicians. Every AI-generated insight is clinician-aligned before reaching you. The system learns from your longitudinal data, becoming more precise with each test cycle.

Our protocols are informed by peer-reviewed research from institutions including Stanford School of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Buck Institute for Research on Aging, and leading publications in Nature, Science, Nature Aging, Cell Metabolism, and JAMA.

Process

How does it work?
  • 1. Join & Schedule: Book through the platform. Depending on your city: partner clinic, accredited lab, or at-home phlebotomy.
  • 2. Test: A trained phlebotomist collects a standard venous blood sample, ~15 minutes. Fasting for 8–12 hours prior is required (water permitted); morning recommended for optimal hormonal accuracy.
  • 3. Analyse & Review: Our partner laboratories with international accreditation (ISO 15189, HOKLAS, CAP/CNAS, or SAC-SINGLAS depending on region) process your 100+ biomarkers. Results are typically available within 10 days. Our clinician-reviewed AI then generates your personalized analysis.
  • 4. Act & Track: Access your interactive health dashboard, review your priority signals, and follow your protocols. Retest in six months to measure progress, refine your approach, and build your longitudinal health profile.
Preparation guidelines
  • Fast for 8–12 hours before your blood draw. Water is permitted and encouraged.
  • Schedule in the morning (before 10 AM if possible) for optimal hormonal and cortisol accuracy.
  • Continue all prescribed medications. Do not discontinue any medication without consulting your physician.
  • Biotin (Vitamin B7) can interfere with thyroid and hormone assays — consider pausing 72 hours before testing.
  • Avoid seafood for 48 hours prior if heavy metal testing is included.
